According to an article in The Boston Herald, the town of Somerville, which is located two miles north of Boston, is in talks with Major League Soccer to be the site of a new 20,000-seat, soccer-specific stadium for the New England Revolution.
“[Er, uh] We have had very preliminary inquiries and conversations,” Mayor Joseph Curtatone said. “[Er, uh] It’s exciting to think that an organization like the New England [er] Revolution and Kraft family would be interested in Somerville, [er, uh] but we are not surprised.” (It's more entertaining if you imagine Mayor Quimby saying this)
Here is a brief description of the town from the town's website:
Today, Somerville is an eclectic mix of blue-collar families, young professionals, college students and recent immigrants from countries as diverse as El Salvador, Haiti, and Brazil. 1/3 of Somerville residents are foreign born, and there are more than 50 spoken languages in Somerville schools. With a large immigrant population, Somerville celebrates its diversity through numerous ceremonies celebrating cultural traditions and holidays. To date, the City has formalized a sister-city relationship with Gaeta, Italy, and plans to formalize similar relationships with cities in El Salvador and Portugal in 2007.
They also have an annual Greek Day parade. Maybe New England should bring back Ted Chronopoulos.
