Poplar Point: Back from the dead, again

An article this morning in The Washington Post details the latest attempt by DC United to secure a portion of the Poplar Point development project for construction of a new soccer-specific stadium.

According to the article, DC Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray (D), Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) and Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) have proposed the building of 27,000-seat stadium that would be partially subsidized by city money, to the tune of $150 million to be exact.

This is essential the same plan proposed by Mayor Adrian Fenty back in February, aplan that the he ended up backing away from when it appeared "unpoplar" (that was a joke). This has been an ongoing attempt to move DC United out of the cavernous RFK Stadium and into new digs.
